Protecting What Matters Most

Protecting your family from fire should always be a top priority. Your home can be rebuilt and most possessions can be replaced, but your loved ones are irreplaceable. Here’s how to help prevent a home fire to protect what matters most…your family!

Check Smoke Detectors Regularly

Most municipalities require homes to be equipped with smoke detectors. When precious minutes count, the warning of a smoke detector can improve your family’s chances of getting out of your home during a fire. But what good is a smoke detector with dead batteries? Not much at all.

Make it a habit to change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year whether they are dead or not. An easy way to remember is when the clocks “fall back” or “spring forward.” If you live in a state where your clocks stay the same all year, set a reminder on your clock’s calendar for Halloween and Easter to change batteries.

Keep Up with Home Maintenance

With busy lifestyles, it can be easy to forget about keeping up with maintenance issues in your home. But forgetting to maintain four certain areas in your home can lead to tragedy. Do not skip:

  • Checking your home’s dryer vent and hose each month and removing any lint buildup
  • Cleaning your oven and stovetop as needed to remove any grease
  • Having your fireplace chimney inspected and cleaned each year
  • Your yearly furnace tune-up and inspection

Keep Fire Out of Reach

Even if you have warned your kids not to play with fire, you cannot depend on them. Children are naturally curious. Make sure you put all matches, lighters and flammable liquids out of your children’s reach to prevent temptation. Always monitor your kids when fireplaces, stovetops or firepits are lit.

Moving On After a Fire

While having a gun safe in your home cannot protect your home and family entirely, it can help your family after a fire. Depending on the model you choose, you could have anywhere between 30 minutes to 2.5 hours of safe fire protectionfor important documents, like insurance policies, birth certificates and passports. These are things you are likely to need as you begin the fire recovery process.

But even more comforting for your family, precious family mementos (photos, baby items, other memorabilia) can benefit from the safe fire protection your Liberty gun safe offers.
